Yesterday our investigator 김태은 got baptized!! She's 18 (Korean age) and is absolutely hilarious... We practice our languages together (she's wanting to improve her English because she plans to go to BYU!!). Lot's of great times with her. I love her dearly! Even though I wasn't there for all of her journey, I am so grateful I could be there as she decided to make a commitment to God. The service was awesome--my first since coming to the field! There were two others who were also being baptized. The youth performed a special musical number about faith... it was beautiful. Also, Koreans seem to be naturally super shy... but love laughter. Lots of great moments. Afterwards we of course ate lots of food! I love that Koreans love food so much. Their food is the best. :)
Now taking it back to last Monday... it was awesome being able to Skype with my family on my birthday!! Unfortunately the camera on my side was pretty fuzzy... but I was happy to see their faces and hear their voices! Following Skype, me and the other three sisters went for an adventure courtesy of one of the sisters in the ward! We went to a bamboo forest (I think it must be pretty famous...?) for some hiking! There was bamboo everywhere! It was crazy. But made for a great time. Lots of pictures were taken... also, we ate some noodles and Korean honey pancakes made with bamboo. Pretty cool! Monday was the best day!
The rest of the week went really well! It's hard to say exactly because the days tend to blend together out here... they go by in a blur!!
Our district decided to "adopt" two families in our ward per companionship in an effort to help missionary work move further. We would choose a time to fast and pray together for both less actives church members as well as nonmembers. Sister Ha and I decided upon two awesome families! I will include more details in my following email... so much to write! So little time...
This week I came across Ether 12:4 during my personal scripture study. It begins by saying "Wherefore, whoso believeth in God might with surety hope for a better world...." I love it so much because it is true. Those who believe in God, as well as in His son Jesus Christ, will have hope. Through that hope they can find happiness and an assurance that no matter how rough life can get, things will get better. They will get better because we are God's children and He loves us. And because He loves us He wants the best things for us; He wants us to be happy. And as long as we trust in Him and act on that trust, we will find that happiness He desires for us. This is the message that I am so happy to share with the people of Korea! This is why I am serving a mission!
